DUET Petrol Payments in Egypt
Vienna/Austria (28.2.2007) – Crédit Agricole Egypt enhances its Smart Card Payment Services, known under the brand name “Genie”, with a Petrol Application for Taxi drivers. The bank’s Smart Cards are based on BGS’ DUET Technology and are already in use for daily payments at restaurants and fast food chains.
As of the third quarter of 2006, Genie Cards have been accepted at Shell Gas Stations for using petrol station services and paying for Natural Gas. Payments at the petrol station are conveniently conducted with handheld offline terminals provided by the company Xiring, a leading POS terminal provider headquartered in Paris, France. Each participating Taxi Driver (Customer) receives a centrally issued Genie Card by Shell. The Smart Card is rechargeable at the specially designed petrol teller workstation. At the gas station the taxi driver can choose whether to pay in cash or card. Both means of payment will be rewarded with loyalty points on the card. If the customer pays in cash he gets single points (10 Egyptian Pounds = 10 loyalty points), if he pays by card he gets double points (10 EGP = 10 points). All interfaces between the shell attendants and the DUET Client cards are done through a handheld Xiplus Terminal.
Additional features that can be utilized for the solution include:
- A specific bonus point value can be set for a specific product and card application:
Card application 1: product 1 = 30€ à 30 points
Card application 1: product 2 = 60€ à 30 points - The client can also earn bonus points based on the number of purchases. (100 purchases: +20 points, 500 purchases: +1000 points)
- Discount tables can be defined so that the customer gets a percentage discount based on the number of accumulated loyalty points (e.g. 2% for 100 points, 3% for 400 points, etc.)
- A life cycle can be set for loyalty programs (start/end date)
- Up to 5 different loyalty programs can be active on one client card
- Detailed reports about earned/redeemed points are available at any time in the DUET Back Office Software. Together, BGS and their local distributor e-Vision have successfully deployed the solution at Crédit Agricole Egypt and continue to expand within the local market.
